| There
is a lot of shadow in these nopal paintings, and they are
rich with detail in blues - cobalt, pthalo, blue
violets. They are also very abstract, but not flat. There
are always deep layers of space in the paintings. Some of
the pencas surge into the foreground while others retreat
into the glowing shadows of mid-space, and far in the
distance the last rays of the sun pick out the rocky face
of the steep mountains.
