The Costume

This is one of the photographs Anita took for the painting “FIESTA OF OUR LADY OF GUANAJUATO”, except it was really Day of the Dead.  Rocio, Maria Elena, Pao and Anita took the costume down from its place above the refrigerator and went giggling into the streets.  They collected enough candy to open a store, and 550 pesos!  Rocio, is wearing the costume in these pictures, but they took turns.  It’s heavy!  It has a cape of roofing discs sewn to simulate reptilian scales, and contains yards of lace, brocade, macramé, ribbon, and the edges of the cape and sleeves are embellished with hundreds of bells made from twisted roofing discs.
